چکیده مقاله:

Background: Radio frequency wave (RFW) generated by mobile phones and wireless communication systems has been reported to cause adverse effects on reproductive function, vision and hematological parameters, possibly through oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of RFW generated bybase transceiver station BTS on oxidative stress in testis, eye and erythrocyte, and the prophylactic effect of vitamin E by measuring the antioxidant enzymes activity, including: glutathione peroxidase (GPx), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), and lipid proxidation. Materials and Methods: Thirty-two adult male Sprague–Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups and treated daily for 45 days as follows: control, treatment control (vitamin E 200 mg/kg of body weight/day by gavage), sham exposed group (exposed to 900 MHz RFW), and treatment group (received vitamin E and exposed to RFW). Control and treatment control groups were not exposed and were only given the vehicle, i.e., distilled water. On the last day of the study, all the rats were sacrificed and their testes, eyes and erythrocyte were collected and used for measurement of antioxidant enzymes activity and lipid peroxidation. Results: Exposure to RFW in the sham exposed group decreased antioxidant enzymes activity and increased lipid peroxidation compared to both control groups (p<0.05). In the treatment group, vitamin E improved antioxidant enzymes activity and reduced lipid peroxidation compared to the sham exposed group (p<0.05). Conclusion: RFW causes oxidative stress in eye, testis and erythrocytes and vitamin E improved oxidative stress in these tissues.

Exposure to radiofrequency wave (RFW) generated by a base transceiver stations (BTS) antenna model affects learning and memory in female more than male rats

Background: Exposure to electromagnetic radiation may impair memory. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of radiofrequency wave (hereafter referred to as RFW) on passive avoidance learning and memory in healthy males and females. Materials and Methods: Ten adult male and ten female Sprague-Dawley rats (230±20 gr) were randomly divided into four groups including two control groups (o...

Colchicine protects rat skeletal muscle from ischemia/reperfusion injury by suppressing oxidative stress and inflammation

Objective(s): Neutrophils play an important role in ischemia/reperfusion (IR) induced skeletal muscle injury. Microtubules are required for neutrophil activation in response to various stimuli. This study aimed to investigate the effects of colchicine, a microtubule-disrupting agent, on skeletal muscle IR injury in a rat hindlimb ischemia model. Materials and Methods: Twenty-one Sprague-Dawley ...

Vitamin E protects against alcohol-induced cell loss and oxidative stress in the neonatal rat hippocampus.

Oxidative stress has been proposed as a possible mechanism underlying nervous system deficits associated with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). Current research suggests that antioxidant therapy may afford some level of protection against the teratogenic effects of alcohol. This study examined the effectiveness of antioxidant treatment in alleviating biochemical, neuroanatomical, and behavioral eff...

P-40: Silymarin Prevents and Protects from the Doxorubicin-induced Oxidative Stress in Testis and Improves Sperm Quality in Rats

Background: Doxorubicin (DOX) as an antracycline is used antineoplastic agents against tumors. Although DOX has been recognized as a potent and effectiveness anticancer compound, there are however plenty of reports indicating its toxicity against the heart, liver and testis, which hampers its clinical use. This study aimed to investigate the preventive and protective effects of Silymarin (SMN) ...

Adrenomedullin protects rat dorsal root ganglion neurons against doxorubicin-induced toxicity by ameliorating oxidative stress

Objective(s): Despite effective anticancer effects, the use of doxorubicin (DOX) is hindered due to its cardio and neurotoxicity. The neuroprotective effect of adrenomedullin (AM) was shown in several studies. The present study aimed to evaluate the possible protective effects of AM against DOX-induced toxicity in dorsal root ganglia (DRGs) neurons. M...

Designing a Multiband Multi Polarization BTS Antenna

In this paper, a new antenna is presented which has an application in cellular telecommunication systems. The designed antenna works at the frequency range of 1900-2600 MHz which is able to cover 2G, 3G and 4G (LTE) services of the cellular telecommunication. In this paper, the micro-strip structure has been used to design the antenna. The shape of the patches is triangular where a peripheral r...
